How to make your Local tax payment?

Some cities and counties charge their own income taxes, normally settled when you file your tax return. Follow the steps below to make an estimated payment.

If you expect to owe enough for the year, quarterly estimated payments are required and help you avoid a large bill and underpayment penalties at filing time. Your Formations Dashboard names the exact local tax you owe, along with the recommended amount and the due date. These are personal income taxes, so pay them from your personal account, the same as your federal and state estimated payments.

Portland area

The Metro Supportive Housing Services (SHS) tax and the Multnomah County Preschool for All (PFA) tax are both administered by the City of Portland's Revenue Division and paid through Portland Revenue Online. You do not need to create a login to make a payment.

  1. Go to https://pro.portland.gov
  2. Choose the option to make a payment, and select estimated quarterly payment
  3. Select the tax program the payment is for: Metro SHS or Multnomah County PFA. (Note: SHS and PFA are separate programs. If your dashboard shows both, make a separate payment for each. A single payment cannot cover both.)
  4. Select the tax year, then enter the payment amount from your Formations Dashboard
  5. Pay by bank account (ACH). (Note: ACH payments have no fee. Credit and debit cards are charged a 2.45% convenience fee, so bank account is usually the better choice.)
  6. Save your confirmation and upload it to your Formations Dashboard under Taxes > Tax Payments

Other localities

Local income taxes exist in other places too, for example New York City and many Ohio municipalities, and each one has its own payment site. Your dashboard names the exact tax, which makes finding the right payment page much easier, and your Formations team can point you to the right place.

If you have questions about the amount, the deadline, or the portal, reach out to your Formations team. We are happy to help.
